Suzuki Jimny With Portal Axles Is The Ultimate Off-Road Toy



The Suzuki Jimny is a mountain goat of an off-roader. Despite being little, it can go many of the places more powerful and more expensive rigs can go. The companies Delta4x4 and Avus Auto are now collaborating on a major upgrade for the tiny SUV by having a kit to install portal axles on the vehicle.

Instead of running through the middle of the wheel, portal axles mount higher and use a gearset to transfer the engine power to turn the tires. With the new parts and larger wheels, ground clearance for this Jimny is now an impressive 15.75 inches (40 centimeters). Without the roof rack, the SUV is still only around 70.9 inches (1.8 meters) tall.

Avus Auto is building 12 examples of the Jimny with portal axles. Delta4x4 handles the job of upgrading the rest of the vehicle. For the proper off-road look, the company fits black 18-inch wheels with an eight-hole design and all-terrain tires. There are also fender flares. Buyers can add a tubular stainless steel brush guard and a three-ton winch.

The suspension receives a 1.575-inch (4-centimeter) lift and adjustable shocks with remote reservoirs. For even more off-road ability, there's an option of adding locking differentials to the front and rear axles.

The photos show the portal-axle Jimny in two forms. The gray SUV has a roof rack fully loaded with gear, covers over the headlights, and the winch. The yellow vehicle has a brush guard with lights on top, a bar of lamps on the roof, and an unloaded rack.

All of this hardcore off-roading equipment comes at a cost though. These Jimnys with portal axles are homologated for sale in Switzerland and Germany, and the starting price is €56,000 ($64,955). To put that in perspective, a regular Jimny starts at €21,915 ($25,422) in Germany. If you want one with all the options like the locking differentials and winch, it costs around €65,000 ($75,399).

Majhen in zelo ekskluziven ekstremist

Po zaslugi nemškega in švicarskega sodelovanja smo v teh dneh dobili novo ekstremno (v pogledu 'plezalnih' sposobnosti po terenu ...) različico prikupnega terensko orientiranega suzukija, ki bo nastala v samo dvanajstih primerkih.

Posledično se je že v osnovi dobro terensko prehoden suzuki jimny prelevil v majhno in prikupno 'off-road pošast', ki se za razliko od številnih modnih SUV-jev in 'šišmišev' (oblikovni križanec) ne bo nikoli ustrašil poštenega izleta izven utrjenih voznih površin, ker je na to sedaj resnično dobro pripravljen. Vse skupaj pa ima tudi svojo ceno (od 56.000 do 65.000 evrov), ki ni ravno majhna, zato se lahko takšen ekstremni jimny pohvali tudi z individualnostjo in visokim odmerkom ekskluzivnosti.

Za odštetih 56.000 evrov bo kupec prejel občutno 'višje nasajenega' (+ 45 mm) jimnyja, ki je nadgrajen tudi s portalno dvignjenimi pogonskimi osmi ter zmogljivim prednjim vitlom, posledično se je občutno povečala tudi razdalja med prednjim in zadnjim diferencialom in vozno podlago, ki znaša pri tako predelanem suzukiju 40 centimetrov (serijska različica: 21 cm). Za to pa je zaslužen tudi set drugačnih, 18-palčnih koles z nameščenimi terensko orientiranimi pnevmatikami (dimenzije: 265/60 R18), medtem ko je serijski jimny lahko počiva na 15- ali pa 16-palčnih kolesih s pnevmatikami v dimenzijah 175/80 R15, odnosno 205/70 R16. Med dodatno opremo takšnega jimnyja pa omenjajo tudi obe (spredaj in zadaj) zapori (100 %) diferencialov, dodatno zaščito podvozja, prednji 'bullbar' ter strešni prtljažnik z integriranimi dodatnimi svetili.

Nemci ('off-road' specialist Delta 4x4) in Švicarji (tunersko podjetje AVUS Auto AG) so ob tem razkrili tudi prodajne cene sestavnih delov, ki poskrbijo za preobrazbo malega suzukija. Za opremljanje vozila s portalno dvignjenimi osmi boste odšteli približno 20.000 evrov, medtem ko vas bo vgradnja 3-tonskega prednjega vitla ožela za približno 3.000 evrov. V tem cenovnem rangu (3.500 evrov) je tudi vgradnja zapor pri obeh diferencialih, enako vsoto denarja boste lahko porabili tudi za nakup 18-palčnih koles, vendar boste morali v tem primeru doplačati še za razširitev karoserijskih blatnikov (1.695 evrov) ter dvig podvozja (1.500 evrov). Najmanj (600 evrov) pa vas bo ožela namestitev prednjega 'bullbara' iz nerjavečega jekla.
