Posnetek STAGE 1. Ta dolina bi naj bila na 16-em km od 50km dolge etape, tako da so jim že na začetku naredili selekcijo. V trophy class-u je prvo etapo prevozila polovica tekmovalcev, ostali so imeli DNF

Croatia Trophy 2013 Day 7
It seems a very long time ago that nearly 50 Trophy class cars blasted around the short prologue on Thursday. Some didn't even make it around that little 1km course... but now there are only a handful of crews left... and today's 70km long monster would surely claim some more luckless teams. “I would be surprised if three cars make it back before dark,” Igor smiled at breakfast.
I wanted to get a few nice shots of Csaba Boros today as he drives so well all I have are ones of him sailing by looking lazily into the distance with his famous toothpick hanging out of his mouth. Today was no different...
We walked up into the forest right next to the Bosnian border to where the Trophy route took the cars up a steep, narrow creek with rocks and old branches in the bottom. Boros had lost about 4 minutes to Szilard Magyar in his G-Wagon Proto and Roman Kulbak was just a few minutes further back in his RFC winning Suzuki Jimny. The Russian somehow didn't need to winch and scrambled to the top despite being thrown from one sheer bank to the other. And then like yesterday, it was a very long wait...
Next up were Stefan Mallia and Alistair Caruana in their Kamoy Buggy. Because the track was now so churned up they had to winch... About an hour later the smiling Norwegians came, thought about winching and then drove over the winch rope with co-driver Christian Huseby hanging onto the rear roll-cage. And that was it. The stage had pretty much destroyed everyone else.
Back at camp only Boros was enjoying the welcome sunshine. The Hungarian is in a class of his own at the top of the leaderboard and while others are having car killing problems all he could complain about was getting his trousers wet!
Team mate Szilard Magyar pulled in about an hour later but all was not well with his G-Wagon Proto. “Big problem, turbo caput.” he sighed. “We had to do 40km with just a normal diesel engine and so going up the hills there was no power so it was winch, winch, winch. But we like the mud and were happy that it was raining. We like the harder the better!”
The Norwegians were among the few to make it back to camp, but there was a reason they were early. “We had some problems with the alternator so we had to come back,” said Christian Huseby as he scooped some Croatian mud from under the bonnet. “Perhaps we should have taken it out and cleaned it after a few days... but we didn't.”
We went to have dinner and by the time we'd finished our amazingly tasty chilly chicken there was still only one Trophy class car back, that of Roman Kulbak, all the way from Vladivostok. “It's very hard, very long. It's like a running marathon... and you have to do it every day. I never did anything like this before, in comparison the RFC is really easy. You do 6 Special Stages and the maximum time in each is 15 minutes. You do 6 in one day, have the next day free and then 6 more. Here it is a full day behind the wheel so I am really tired... the car is too, it was overheating on the constant steep climbs today so we had to stop a few times to fill the radiator with water. This race is very cool though, really cool!”
Results are of course still a long time away from being published but Boros has a clear lead over Magyar and Kulbak has a secure 3rd... and the 4th placed crew haven't come out of the forest yet. Tomorrow is the last stage but Boros almost retired at this point last year, so I'm sure he'll be clenching his toothpick between his teeth all day...
